A Quote to Live By

This year as part of a wonderful group I’m involved with we decided to find a quote for our studio wall and create an artwork based on it. I’m interested in finding out my purpose with drawing, find out why I’m here, and what energizes me to keep going. I found this quote by Susan Sontag,

“Do stuff. be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. stay eager.” Susan Sontag

Here is my artwork, which I’ve also made into a giclee print for anyone else that would like it for their wall too….quotejessracklyeft

By coincidence while I was posting this, I’ve been listening to this inspiring podcast by Andy Pizza: http://www.creativepeptalk.com/episodes/2017/1/12/116-unlock-your-true-potential – have a listen on your next art making session to get revved up for the year.

Duality

I’m so happy to be a part of this amazing exhibition on in just under two weeks in Melbourne, with pairings of artists and writers to create the work. Organised by Shannyn Higgins (her work can be seen here) it’s going to be a pretty spectacular show methinks! Project website here including portraits Shannyn took of all the participants, including me!

Posters for Movies By Burswood

Awhile back I did a little Christmas call out for drawings for charities – it led to some really fun projects, including this one. Movies by Burswood (who donates all profits to children’s charities) is run by over 600 volunteers, and they wanted to celebrate them through a series of posters, 2 of the 3 designs are below. You can re-pin via Pinterest and help spread the word.

Supergraph

Coming to Melbourne a little over a month from now is a new art/design/illustration exhibition called Supergraph. It’s a great idea, celebrating the many talented artists of our city (and beyond) and will be held at the beautiful Royal Exhibition Centre – 14, 15, 16 February 2014.

Some of the participants include the awesome artists from the Jacky Winter Group, Etsy, Saint Gertrude , The Hungry Workshop and yours truly (cough cough)… (See the full list here). I’ll be bringing some original watercolour works and be alongside some great Melbourne artists. Hope to see you there!

The Convent Pop-Up Shop

As mentioned a few posts back, I am luckily to be involved in the beautiful Abbotsford Pop-Up Shop. Here are a few great things about it:

  1. It is in one of the most beautiful places in Melbourne, the lovely convent. Good food, gardens, nearby farm animals, coffee etc… Makes me very happy just being there.
  2. 95% of artists involved have studios there… Lucky them. I will one day.
  3. Almost all of the sale price goes back to the artist. That’s amazing. And makes every purchase a direct link and support to their awesome work.
  4. The artists staff the shop, so you can talk to them about their process and work etc.

A few snaps from my shift yesterday…. The shop is open until almost Xmas, get on down!

Trudy Moore Exhibition – Dench

The talented Trudy Moore, usually a paper sculpture/3D artist has created an exhibition for Dench in North Fitzroy. I helped out with a few little characters for some of the scenes (see in the third image below) – based around a story created by Rachel Wheeler. More to come (hopefully a little book by us all) but in the mean time, come and visit (whilst enjoying a coffee and tasty bread something).

Design for Friends4Life

AnnaDI recently created this little greeting card design for non-profit organisation Friends4Life (ngo created by Lonely Planet author Alan Murphy). I don’t have a whole lot of money to donate myself this year – but I can do drawings like this that may hopefully inspire others to help – so if you have a small foundation/non-profit group I can donate some art for, please let me know.

Launching this Sunday (also the Convent’s Open Day) the shop will be run by artists, and sharing their work created at this amazing spot. Full details can be read here.
